i am having a similar problem.......except that i have an amd ati radeon graphic cards....i dont have problem with ubuntu but have problem with backtrack 5 r3...i use it via USB......boots normal but after 2 minutes or sometimes 1 or sometimes 5 minute the whole screen doesnt respond to mouse clicks or scroll....the mouse works perfectly bu the screen doesnt respond and when i use keyboard (example ctrl+W to close a tab) the screen responds sometimes but doesnt do anything sometimes....so once it freezed again and i just wanted to see if removing the usb while im still on the screen would do anything and when i did remove the usb, the screen display was on the same page when i was, before removing except that the mouse still moved or functioned normally.....so i think the problem is that my usb is loose sometimes or is it just a bug
