I was able to build nvidia-cuda-toolkit successfully on a PPA builder
with Proposed dependencies enabled.

Previously, the build would fail while installing nvidia-current:

Setting up nvidia-current (295.40-0ubuntu1.2) ...
update-alternatives: using /usr/lib/nvidia-current/ld.so.conf to provide
/etc/ld.so.conf.d/x86_64-linux-gnu_GL.conf (x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf) in auto
mode.
update-alternatives: error: error creating symbolic link
`/usr/share/applications/ubuntu-nvidia-settings.desktop.dpkg-tmp': No such file
or directory
dpkg: error processing nvidia-current (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

Now, nvidia-current is installed successfully and the build goes on to
completion:

Setting up nvidia-current (295.40-0ubuntu1.3) ...
update-alternatives: using /usr/lib/nvidia-current/ld.so.conf to provide
/etc/ld.so.conf.d/x86_64-linux-gnu_GL.conf (x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf) in auto
mode.
update-alternatives: using /usr/lib/nvidia-current/alt_ld.so.conf to provide
/etc/ld.so.conf.d/i386-linux-gnu_GL.conf (i386-linux-gnu_gl_conf) in auto mode.
