Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately that won't work. We have a roaming profile (LDAP+NFS), so basically that monitors.xml file will be used no matter what desktop environment I use; the triple screen setup works just fine in 12.04 and Mint Maya but not on Trusty.
The mouse problem becomes worse when I access windows app through Citrix receiver (XenApp). When I mouse over the windows app, the mouse pointer becomes blurry, and part of the background UI (be it desktop wallpaper, browser, etc..) shows.
