you just have to stop gdm durning flickering screen in tty1 login
type
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
then install nvidia drivers(not open source one)
if you have not downloaded drivers, boot from previous kernel and download them
then install drivers by
sudo sh NVIDIA.run ,or whatever is your driver package file name
then start gdm
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start
and you will get u your display back
(works in most cases) including mine..
