Hrm, well that sucks that a cosmetic issue is replaced by a crash! But since this bug was about the invisible cursor and it seems gone with -16, we should close this bug report and consider it fixed.
I'd love it if you could get a bug filed on the crash report. See if you can reproduce it on -16, restart on -15, and then file the bug report. If not, see if you can manually collect a full backtrace on the bug (see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing).
