I have installed this driver on a clean, freshly installed ubuntu 10.04 beta. As a result, the system is unbootable - it doesn't go any further than a purple screen - the GDM doesn't start and the system freezes. Also, the recovery mode stops at a black screen and is also unusable. Changing VTs with ctrl alt fX doesn't work, all I can do is to power down my laptop ( dell 1555 with ati 4570 ). Any ideas how to un-brick my system? I guess chrooting from a live-cd is the only way to go, but I'm listening for your ideas.
