I see, but why does "dpkg -S" say it's from xserver-xorg-video-nouveau?

Also this should have been purged, but wasn't probably because of errors
when trying to do so:

$ LANG=C sudo dpkg -P linux-backports-modules-nouveau-2.6.32-12-generic

Looks like you want to add " || true" to the update-initramfs call in
the postrm script.

I had linux-backports-modules-nouveau-2.6.32-{12,13,14}-generic installed, but 
purged now:
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-kernel-nouveau.conf is gone.

It appears "dpkg -S" is buggy here?
