Problem: Two installations made unusable by install of the Ubuntu tested and recommended Nvidia drivers-96.
Lucid 10.04 Beta2 Albatron KX18 Pro-ll Albatron-branded Nvidia card circa 2005 (mod unavail) half-gig RAM Lucid installed with encrypted partitions The default install of Lucid and other Ubuntu distros have been nearly flawless. Updated Nvidia drivers have been a recurring problem but safe- upgrade w/Aptitude has never inserted a non-working driver. The driver-96 install gave me a grossly magnified screen on boot-login to crypt. Login successful. Once host partit's/root unencrypted, screen goes black. Booting in recovery-mode w/Lucid or other CD allows net access and apt functions. Tried purging and replacing all major components of system, including tossing all Nvidia-named files and pkgs, incl. nouveau and nv, then reinstalling default Nvidia stuff after reboot. No change. My experience with both cmd-line and Linux is limited but tried every trick I could muster. No go. Wiped the 2 HD's and did reinstalls. A related problem I won't go into here is that new Nvidia pkgs AND new -33 kernel both appear to infest Ubuntu machines with DRM. note: I won't be able to respond to contributors in near future so big thank-you in advance. -- There's a problem after install NVidia drivers (version 96) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/476055 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-96 in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
