@Nick Lib - Thanks for the tip about running "aticonfig --initial" after
installing fglrx.  I forgot to mention that in comment 2.

@cfwrsfan - I you have an NVIDIA GTX280 you have a different bug.  Please open 
a new bug and attach the output of lspci -vvnn
Also, I don't think you want to be messing with noapic.  APIC is the Advanced 
Programmable Interrupt Controller (see 
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Programmable_Interrupt_Controller ) and 
is completely different to acpi, which is the the Advanced Configuration and 
Power Interface (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ACPI ). ACPI is older (but is 
still being actively developed).
