phpmonkey, I am glad that you can get the 1024x600 resolution for your panel without the modeline in xorg.conf. As you said, there are two issues remaining here: 1) The remaining resolution options are reduced. Your remaining options turn to be two. And on my notebook, there are 3 options(1024x600, 640x480, 320x240) remaining. 2)the login screen still displays skewy, with the 4:3 ratio. I have not met this issue. My default resolution after boot is 1024x600, when I change the resolution from 1024x600 to 640x480, everything is fine. My X server version is 1.7.99.901. Could you provide your Xorg.0.log for this experiment?
