Tom proposed the following answer: I guess the main trick to try in advance of doing the Windows install is to make sure your Ubuntu cd does get you to a LiveCd session from "Try Ubuntu without changes to this machine" https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootFromCD This should help because Firefox from there should be able to surf right into here and elsewhere in case of troubles.
