Ville Aine proposed the following answer:
"sudo apt-get clean" removes the cached packages silently, so it probably freed
some space even though
it did not say anything. You can see the amount of free space via Applications
/ Accessories / Disk Usage Analyzer,
or by running "df -h" in a terminal.
