Hi! Jesse,

I have download 1.1 M2 and have tried to double click and .umap file and
have it open and display the map.
It opens udig fine, but stays on the blue opening page.

Do I need to do anything more specific like run it directly from the
command line with certain parameters of something?

Or, when you said below that you added that functionality, did you mean
something else?
Do I have to develop a special plugin to make uDig startup and display a
map this way?

Michelle

project map?

I've just added the functionality to uDig 1.1. I'm making a MileStone
release right now that you can develope against. I'll do the official
milestone release soon but will have something for you to play with
today.
