Hi uDiggers,

usual suspect Matthias Basler has tested uDig 1.1 in usual German environment.

Here is what I've found:

- Intro screen is still English, although German translation exists in source
code. I still don't know why it isn't picked up? Maybe it is in the wrong
location or must be registered somewhere. Help is appreciated.
- Going from intro to "Getting started" leads to the message that this topic is
not found.

- There is an "&Layer" in the top menu. Looks ugly.
- Same with "Zusammenfassen zu &Ressource" (among others) in the dialog showing
all actions.
- Help and Help content preference pages are still English. I don't remember:
Were there any technical problems preventing you from adding the help fragments
for foreign languages or has this just not happened in a lack of time to
configure the build/packaging?
- "Basic Landscape Template" is English in preferences
- EPSG-Code for standard CRS is -1 for me after installation. Is this intended?

- Importing three shapefiles (borders, lakes, rivers) in one step via "Import"
in file menu adds just TWO entries to the catalog. (On a second try even only
one!) Deleting them from catalog shows the missing one(s).
No, the catalog is not sane, sorry!

- Trying to edit lakes.shp I first deleted some vertices, then switched to
adding vertices. This produced an error "Apologies. An internal error has
occurred. In order to preserve data integrity the last edit sequence is going
to be discarded."
Then I can add vertices. Switching to deleting vertices now gives the same
error. Actually the error occurs everytime I change the editing tool. Maybe I
have to press "Commit" before switching the tool? If so uDig should rather ask
me to perform a commit instead of throwing an error if I havn't. After all a
users like me would associate "commit" with databases only.

(BTW. The error is untranslated as well. Is it new?)

- I created a map with the "earthlights.jpg" from the (or a) walkthrough and
added bc_border afterwards. Then I reprojected the map. Afterwards uDig
complains that it cannot reproject the map, although I only view the area of
BC. The image is not shown.
-> Is it not possible to reproject images in general? There's no hint to the
user whether the problem is uDig not capable or reprojecting images, a problem
with the image or its location on earth or anything else.

- The legend doesn't show raster images. Oh wait, it does, it just doesn't show
"earthlights.jp", but "clouds.jpg", although I have both loaded (one with
thransparency).
So legend isn't sane either ... or this is a follow-up of catalog not being
able to count correctly.

Trying to export the map as a "JPEG" image I get an "String index out of range
-1". It produces an earthlights_jpg file on the disc. (Yes, with _ not with .)

Note that there is "jpeg" AND "JPEG" in the file format list; and jpeg2000
appears twice too.

Choosing "jpeg" (small letters) I get a "earthlights_jpg.jpeg". But it cannot
be displayed in my image viewer. PhotoImpact tells me this is a CMYK file ???

(P.S. Ah, I see the underscore is because the map was called "earthlights.jpg"
by uDig. Not my fault!)

Sanity test failed.
That's all for now. Have a good night
