Arioch can you open up a JIRA issue to this effect please.

* I am not sure what that format is; or why uDig thinks it can recognise that 
format?
* OGR apparently supports this; the OGR DataStore in GeoTools is unsupported; 
however some time could be spent testing. I have not looked at the internals; 
not sure if it is expecting the JNA bindings for OGR to be around or what ...
* The TAB support in a community module uses a different technique; it is 
configured with the directory of the OGR tools; and calls out on the command 
line to convert the file format it a tmp shapefile which it can display. From 
the point of view of a user this is a seamless *read-only* experience that has 
proven quite successful.
