For context here is Arioch's original email: > Is uDig supposed to read maps of S-57 format ? > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IHO -> publications -> S-57 > > uDig is built upon GeoTools, which seems to support reading of S-57 - > http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOTOOLS/OGR+Data+Store > > But when i try to open S-57 file, some general error without detailed > description pops up. Arioch can you open up a JIRA issue to this effect please.
* I am not sure what that format is; or why uDig thinks it can recognise that format? * OGR apparently supports this; the OGR DataStore in GeoTools is unsupported; however some time could be spent testing. I have not looked at the internals; not sure if it is expecting the JNA bindings for OGR to be around or what ... * The TAB support in a community module uses a different technique; it is configured with the directory of the OGR tools; and calls out on the command line to convert the file format it a tmp shapefile which it can display. From the point of view of a user this is a seamless *read-only* experience that has proven quite successful. -- Jody Garnett On Sunday, 31 July 2011 at 10:50 AM, Jody Garnett wrote: > Perhaps we should take this topic over to udig-devel if you would like to > figure out an approach to add these capabilities? > > We do make an update site available with community plugins; so if you made a > plugin on this topic it would be available > to others. > > I am really not familiar with the format and cannot comment further. > -- > Jody Garnett > > > On Friday, 29 July 2011 at 8:08 PM, Arioch wrote: > > > Jody Garnett <[email protected] (mailto:[email protected])> > > ïèñàë(à) â ñâî¸ì ïèñüìå Fri, 29 Jul > > 2011 02:53:10 +0400: > > > > > I have not tried hooking up the OGR datastore; there is also a > > > community module for TAB which uses command line OGR to unpack TAB files > > > into a nice temporary file for visual display. > > > > what should i add into uDig to get S-57 format being read and maybe > > exported to other formats ? > > maybe there'd to be p2 update site for modular installing ? > > and btw, if uDig cannot recognize format it could tell so, instead of > > failure during loading > > > > > > Is uDig supposed to read maps of S-57 format ? > > > > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IHO -> publications -> S-57 > > > > > > -- > > Íàïèñàíî â ïî÷òîâîì êëèåíòå áðàóçåðà Opera: http://www.opera.com/mail/ >
