FYI: Few month ago I started a discussion on the geotools-developer
mailinglist (see [1]) . The project because I was asking for the S-57
reader/renderer has not been started yet and I've no idea whether it will
come ...

I'm not a C++ developer but I guess we could find an other approach solving
the requirement to get S-57 charts into geotools and therefore geoserver and
udig. IMHO we should have a look at the libs52 [3] library and properly the
OpenCPN [2] project, which - hopefully I understood correctly - uses the
gdal library to load S-57 data.
