The best I found was:
-
http://demo.opengeo.org/geoserver/ows?service=wms&version=1.1.1&request=GetCapabilities
It has a very low resolution blue marble (i.e. terrible) here:
-
http://demo.mapserver.org/cgi-bin/wms?SERVICE=WMS&VERSION=1.1.1&REQUEST=GetCapabilities
I have added these links to our "data" page (so you can quickly see for
yourself):
But we are very much lacking a good example blue marble.
One other option is a tile server:
1. Layer > Add
2. Choose "Web Map Tiles" from the bottom of the list
3. Navigate to "NASA > NASA BMNG > BMNG with bathymetry > BMNG January"
4. Hit Next
They indicated that the tiled wms would stay operational.
For extra bonus question it is nice to choose a scale and swap between a local
image and the web services.
