Generic DataStore getting in the way of WMS support

Okay I have been able to reproduce the problem Emily reported on the email
list; basically DnD of WMS URLs is broken.
This must mean that one of the GeoTools datastore is incorrectly accepting a
WMS URL; for now I am going to ignore it for DnD operations (using the "id").
I also experimented with getting the "short list" of stuff; so we could prompt
the user to choose just what matters. The threading issues here are odd for me
as the state (ie descriptor) seems to be calculated in a background thread and
this is not complete when the page is initially set up.
