Made progress ...

uploaded linux 32bit JRE's (1.6.0_25) with the following options:

* jre1.6.0_25.lin32_jai_iio.tgz (Standard JRE + JAI + ImageIO native libs)
* jre1.6.0_25.lin32_jai_iio_gdal_base.tgz (Standard JRE + JAI +
ImageIO native libs + GDAL 1.7.3 base libs)
* jre1.6.0_25.lin32_jai_iio_gdal_ecw.tgz (Standard JRE + JAI + ImageIO
native libs + GDAL 1.7.3 base + ecw libs)

Testes with dted and ecw files and both were displayed correctly. I'm
wondering about other supported gdal formats (format-filter shows 75+
other supported gdal formats), for example grb or hgt I was not able
to open.

Do we have a supported gdal format list somewhere we can check our
JRE's against. It would be great to have test data sets in the
download section as well ;) Properly taken or linked from osgeo :
http://download.osgeo.org/gdal/data/ (some formats have generated
content)

Anything else?

Cheers, Frank

Tested with 1.3-SNAPSHOT (the prior version of the current 1.3.2) on
OSGeo live 6.0 VM.
