I agree.  The value for this number of lines is persistent, so I added
it to the options dialog.  I too would prefer it less buried, but I will
defer on that to the judgement of the other devs.

Actually, the lines are just the original colors shaded out, similar to
the area outside the crop.  GIMP does appear to be inverting the colors,
which would be simple enough to accomplish, but I'm not sure it's worth
changing.
