What a desperate move.

HOIMA – A woman who wanted to spend a night with her lover told her husband that graduated tax collectors were going to raid their neighbourhood that night.

Reluctant to face the wrath of the tax collectors, the resident of Kasonga village in Kyangwali sub-county only identified as Mr Kankeire ordered for an early supper then went into hiding in the garden outside his house on the night of February 11.

With the husband out of the way, Ms Rose Kankeire invited her unidentified lover into her home for a night of passion.

According to the area parish chief, Mr Ismail Nyangabyaki, Kankeire decided to return home at 5 a.m. – confident that it was too late for the tax collectors to raid – only “to be greeted by funny noises in his house”.

Love may be blind, but it can see in the dark. According to the parish chief, Kankeire “picked his spear and held it at the ready but when he banged the door, the poacher flew through the window and escaped”.

Clan members reportedly settled the matter and residents say Kankeire has now vowed to pay his graduated tax.

Meanwhile, the LC-III chairman of Bugambe, Mr John Bahemuka, recently stopped graduated tax collection in the area.

Bahemuka accused tax collectors of raping women they found in their homes after their husbands escaped into hiding, and appealed to the district chief administrator’s office to intervene.
