MBARARA - The UPDF 2nd Division Spokesman, Lt Chris Magezi, has said the British government is investigating a recent clash in Bunagana, Kisoro district between the UPDF and unidentified force.

Magezi was responding to questions during a press conference in his office on Monday.
He said the other party is yet to be identified but the British government is investigating it.

Magezi did not tell what interest the British government had in the matter.
Military sources told The Monitor that the UPDF on December 4 lashed with soldiers suspected to be members of the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF), who were crossing to eastern Congo via Bunagana border post.

Bunagana is a triangular border area shared between Uganda, Rwanda and DRC.
The UPDF that was on its routine patrol, battled the force on the foothills of mountain Muhavura for two hours.

Magezi had called the Press to dispel rumours that there was an on going secret recruitment into the army in the western region.
"There are suspected subversive activists spreading rumours that UPDF is recruiting in the western region. Alot of reports have reached my desk that UPDF is recruiting in Mbarara, Ntungamo and Kisoro, which is not true," Magezi said.

"We are still studying these reports which could be from PRA or ADF," he said.
"We do not recruit individuals and if we are to do so, we carry out an official countrywide exercise and it is given publicity in all media," Magezi said.

He said the UPDF was full alert during the christmas holiday.
This means that UPDF is ready to deal with any armed gang that crosses Ugandan borders anytime.
