The government has trained and armed 665 game rangers to curb poaching in national game parks and reserves.
The team called the Special Wildlife and Tourism Protection Force, comprises 450 UPDF soldiers and 215 Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) rangers.
The UWA Executive Director, Mr Moses Mapesa, said the team was formed following a partnership between the UPDF and UWA in 2002.
He was on Saturday speaking at a pass out of the team at Kololo in Purongo sub-county in Gulu.
"We shall not sit back and look at the massive wildlife being killed by the poachers who come well armed to attack us. If they do not stop, fire will go with fire," he said.

The Army Commander, Maj. Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, said the army was ready to take on the poachers.
"We are extremely ready to provide peace. In case of anything, inform us. Let the trainees be our informers in all the areas they will be deployed. We shall come in to help," Nyakayirima said.
