THREE women were on Thursday hacked to death by the Lord's Resistance Army rebels in Pader.

The women were in their gardens in Latuu in Lapul sub-county, Aruu county.

The northern regional police commander, P. K. Arinaitwe, identified the dead as Christine Lakot, Mary Atto and Sylvia.

The northern army spokesman, Lt. Tabaro Kiconco, on Saturday said the army pursued the rebels, killing three of them on Friday. He said the army rescued eight captives.

Kiconco said two guns and 70 bullets were recovered from the rebels.

The rebels have continued to wreck havoc on civilian positions despite the ongoing peace talks mediated by former minister Betty Bigombe.
