Our brick wall is from Andrew back into Ireland..
The family seems to have moved about somewhat in county Tyrone so they were
likely tenant farmers…

Andrew Buchanan of Binnawooda emigrated to Canada via Quebec and Kingston in
1846 or 1847. d. Kingston in quarantine
His wife Jane Long or Young or McNeilance accompanied him along with their
eight children - seven boys and one girl
The whole family sans deceased headed west from Kingston to Shakespeare Ontario
where the women remained while the men explored the as yet unsurveyed Queen’s
Bush to find a property. They returned for the women and became, along with the
Thompsons, the first settlers of Elma Township, in what is now Perth County,
Ontario.

One of his sons, William Buchanan, is our ancestor. He was married to Annie
Thompson of Collow in March 1846 in Lower Langfield Church at Drumquin and
their infant daughter perished in quarantine at Kingston.

Robert Buchanan, eldest son, weaver, b. April 20, 1815 Christened Learmore,
Urney Parish

Charles Buchanan bapt. Learmore Urney Parish May 1817 m. Nancy “Fanny”Porter of
Ardstraw 1843 in Killeter Parish Church No ships list found. Family lore has
it that the family travelled with only one wife so she may have come over later.

James Buchanan bapt. 1823

Andrew 1826

John 1829

Samuel 1832

Jane 1836

There is extensive work done on this family in Canada and North America but
even with the family having its own DNA haplogroup, little information on its
Irish roots.
