Funeral of Mrs. Wm. MEEHAN Ballybofey

Profound sorrow prevailed in Ballybofey and surrounding districts when
it became known that Mrs. William MEEHAN had passed away after a
lengthened illness. Her demise will be long felt, not alone by her
friends and near relatives, but by many others outside the family
circle who had gained the pleasure of her acquaintance, as she gained
the esteem of all by her geniality, good disposition, and strict
uprightness to every honourable principle. She leaves behind her no
memory other than that worthy of appreciation. The funeral, which took
place on Saturday, bore testimony by its large and representative
character to the high esteem in which deceased and her family were
held. Requiem mass was celebrated by the Rev. P. B. M'MULLIN C.C. in
St. Mary's Church, Stranorlar and the remains were interred in the
family burying-ground Sessaghoneil. The Right Rev. Monsignor M'GLINN
returned thanks on behalf of the relatives and friends for their
attendance at the funeral and referred in high terms to the many good
qualities of the deceased, of her kindness, her charity, her devotion
to her religious duties. The various places of business in Ballybofey
were closed and blinds were drawn while the funeral was passing, and
evidence of the deepest sympathy was manifested.

The chief mourners were - William MEEHAN (husband), Hugh, Tim, Jim,
William John (sons), William George and James MAGEE (brothers),
Alexander MEEHAN (brother-in-law), Hugh and Mick MAGEE, William
M'ELCHAR and William BONAR (nephews), Patrick MAGEE, N.T. (cousin).

The Late Mrs. M'GINLEY Strabane
On Saturday, the 29th inst., the remains of the above estimable and
respected inhabitant of Strabane was removed from her late residence,
Barrack Street, amid manifestations of deep sorrow. The funeral
cortege was large and representative of all classes, showing a marked
degree the respect in which the late Mrs. M'GINLEY and her sorrowing
family were held. The coffin was borne on the shoulders of her sons
from her late residence to the church of the Immaculate Conception,
Strabane, where requiem mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father TRACEY
C.C., for the happy repose of her soul. Father TRACEY having read the
last holy service of the Church for the deceased, referred at great
length to the exemplary life of her who was gone and the many noble
and virtuous qualities she was possessed of. Always of a quiet,
unassuming and retiring disposition, but ever watchful and attentive
in the faithful discharge of her religious duties. He said that during
his five years in Strabane, she was constantly devoted to the Sacred
Heart by receiving Holy Communion upon the first Friday of each month,
also upon the first Sunday of each month. He attended her during her
illness and gave her the last sacraments of the church, which she
received with pious and holy devotion. Her death was a happy one,
which is but the crowning reward of a good and holy Catholic life. He
sympathised deeply with the family whom she had left behind, a
good-hearted, kind and wise mother, her happy presence and good advice
were gone for ever from amongst them, which would be dearly missed.
Father TRACEY also dwelt at considerable length on the certainty death
to all and the uncertainty of the time. We know not the day, the hour,
or the minute, or the place. He, therefore, exhorted upon all present
the importance of leading such truly Christian lives as to merit the
reward of a happy death. The funeral cortege reformed and wended its
way to the New Cemetery, Strabane, where at the graveside Father
TRACEY read the funeral service and all that was mortal of a kind and
dear mother were carefully lowered to its last resting-place in the
grave.

The chief mourners were - Messrs. Patrick M'GINLEY and Michael
M'GINLEY, managers Messrs. Stapley & Smith, Ltd., Strabane, and John M
M'GINLEY, sons; John, James and Hugh BRANNON, Derry, grandsons;
Patrick and Francis M'NAMEE, nephews.

The coffin of polished oak, massively mounted, was supplied by Mr.
James WHITE, Strabane. The hearse was supplied by Mr. Thomas QUIGLEY,
Farmers Home, Strabane.
