This discussion actually spurred me to mess with podcasts again. I've
been using iPodder, because it was readily available in the Ubuntu
repositories. It seems pretty reasonable feature-wise. My favorite
feature there is the "advanced" tab in the preferences where you can tell
it to run an arbitrary command on each file as it's downloaded. Since
that command could be a script you've written, that adds pretty limitless
flexability.
So far, my only problem is that some feeds don't seem to work. The file
they download is not the actual audio. It is either an HTML file saying
the document has been moved and giving a link for the new location, or it
will just be an empty 0 k file. These feeds seem to work fine in my RSS
feed aggrigator (Liferea), and I can download the enclosures there with no
problem. So, I'm not sure why these feeds don't work with iPodder. I
wish I could figure it out, but I know little about RSS or Podcasting.
Perhaps there's a better app out there.

I don't have recommendations per-se, but I noticed that Juicereceiver used to
be iPodder. There are still linux iPodder files available on Sourceforge

And I also ran across another project that may have some relationship called
CastPodder
http://www.castpodder.net/
Those might be worth checking out.

plenty things on google with linux + podcast. So, what's the recommendation
here to use?
