Another thing you might try is to edit /boot/grub/menu.1st .  There
should be a line that says something like

I think on FC5 the config file is /boot/grub/grub.conf (or I think a symbolic link is at /etc/grub.conf). This was how it was on FC4, so I assume it's the same. But yea, you changed the default=0 to 1 for the windows partition, and to 0 for the linux partition.

One thing you might try is to reboot the PC, wait for the OS selection
menu to come up, and see if there's an option there to change the
default OS.

Another thing you might try is to edit /boot/grub/menu.1st .  There
should be a line that says something like
default=0
Change this to
default=1
or whatever the index of the menu item that you want to be the default is.

Note that I haven't tried either of these methods myself...
