Ah, but you forget the ones who will complain that your LiveCD broke their Windows machine... somehow. ;-)
I agree with the general sentiment - shotgunning (Live)CDs is probably a waste of money. Best to target them at the CMPS and Engineering schools, where there's more chance of people using them, and less chance of absolutely clueless people nuking their computers. Another potential idea is to focus on the selling points of Linux. This could be gcc for CS students (avoid the detective cluster), Octave for math students (avoid expensive matlab), gretl for econ students (do those multivariable linear regressions more easily!), and so forth. Make a convincing case as to why Linux is the better OS for their needs.
