Before getting into more complicated things like firewall configurations, it seems more likely to me that it is just that your DNS server configuration is incorrect.
Are you getting your IP address using dhcp or setting it manually? Either way, I would check that your /etc/resolv.conf has the correct DNS server entries and that you can actually reach them.
