Is there a utility to modify the date & time of modification of a file? Or is there a way to have cp carry over the date & time of the original file? (man cp didn't turn up anything, either.)
what you are looking for is the program with the unlikely name of "touch".
also, when copying, "cp -a" will preserve timestamps. You can also use tar into and out of a pipe to do this as well.
