let me at least narrow down the problem space:

- in my office when I run VPN from a wired line, it works fine,
  possibly because i don't see the IP changed on me as it is normally!

- in my office when I run VPN from the UMD wireless, it hangs.
  Got a different IP, so i guess it makes sense.
