Quick Scan is a tool that let's you run a scan in your network in the same
way you would search for files in your pc using spotlight on a mac. It has
a tray icon, and it can be triggered with a keystroke. The keystroke and
the tray icon doesn't work on every operating system, but it is not as hard
as rocket science to get it to work. Also, you'd need to make sure it is
fully integrated into network scanner main interface.

These got broken when we migrated our git repository. You'll find these
dependencies in our github: http://www.github.com/umitproject . Clone them,
and put them in your PYTHONPATH and you're ready to go.

How do you intend to have them integrated?

Sounds good!

Next step is:

Apply here: http://google-melange.appspot.com/gsoc/org/google/gsoc2012/umit
Using this template:
http://dev.umitproject.org/projects/umitproject/wiki/SoCApplicationForm

Do that now, and add what you already have. You can keep improving your
proposal once submitted, and we can start discussing it further from there
also. This will also guarantee you don't miss the deadline due to rush of
applications near the deadline.

All you proposed sounds very promising, and I think you've got a case :)
Let's keep discussion from melange (google's proposal management system)
