We have had a number of problems with Windows XP that appear to be Unicon
problems but have all turned out to be Bill Gates Problems (BGPs). When
some Microsoft programs are installed on XP--Windows XP Professional
office suite, for example--attempts to cd to 2-word directories (like
"program files") fail. Also, the operating system "forgets" where "here"
is when a program tries to write to the current directory. Installing in
C:\unicon may solve the problem, as Kazimir suggests.
