Any of the major Linux distributions should work just fine. You can always change you mind later and switch, too. I've got mostly RedHat machines - 3 Fedora Core 3, 17 RedHat 8, and 5 or so RedHat 9. They all work just fine with Unicon. The HT on your Pentium may or may not be a win. The one machines that's a Pentium (a laptop) doesn't see any improvement with HT on.
