Alberto:  You are the erudite and intelligent voice for 18 buildings - not exactly chopped liver in the world of real estate.  Not exactly the small-time, 2 or 3 properties type of landlord and home-owner that the list primarily serves.  Please stop trying people's patience by promoting yourself as the little people's defender.  Your altruistic pose ranks right up there with Mr. Peabody's fractured fairy tales.

Subject: Re: [UC] Historical Commission discussion on Bill 020462 is delayed

There has been a change in the agenda of the Historical Commission's
meeting
on Friday, Nov. 8th. The vote on the nomination of the National Building
will happen as planned at 9 AM, however, the discussion at the end of
the
meeting on the proposed way that Historic Districts are created has been
cancelled and will be rescheduled for a later date.

I'm concerned that this cancellation is a ploy on the part of the PHC to keep the public from knowing what's going on and from letting the voice of the people be heard. This meeting has been well publicized in University City and Center City -- areas where huge numbers of people may be affected by what this group does. They're not accustomed to their meetings getting publicity and good attendance, and there are certainly grounds to believe they just don't want this all out in the open. Thereby proving more conclusively than any other way I can imagine that the change in the authority for designation is needed.

I have requested that they reconsider this unfortunate decision to flout the right of the public to know what's going on and to let its voice be heard. If it takes a longer meeting than they're accustomed to having, so be it.

Also, I assume that they're still planning to have Architectural Committee reports on those 22 or so applications for permits that are somehow beyond the scope of the routine staff approval they kept telling us prevailed so overwhelmingly. So attending the meeting to find out just what is so radical that it takes this kind of discussion and decision should be quite illuminating. The meeting should therefore be worth attending even if they want to bury any consideration of democratizing the designation process.
