There is a fundamental problem with an approach to senior housing that attempts to segregate seniors into special living arrangements. That is a totally artificial environment, with none or very few of the interactions that are essential for a healthy state of mind. The benefits that extended families used to provide are entirely absent in today's senior centers. What is needed is true inter-generational living arrangements, not an occasional contact. We need communities in which people of all ages interact on a daily basis, with activities that are stimulating, and where the exchange of views from different vantage points is a daily occurrence.
