Hi
I was stuck in that mess. If anyone hears any news on what they plan to do
it would be great. It was a mess this am.
The radio says take I 95 to 676 but that is
not great.
Oh well, we live in an old city

Subject: [UC] South Street Bridge

The information below came from the operations dept. at HUP:

Earlier this morning, concrete fell from the aging South Street Bridge
onto the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) below. This resulted in the
closure of both the bridge, while engineers assessed the potential
structural issues, and the Expressway for clean-up. Discussion with the
City's Bridge Engineer's Office has provided some information with
respect to the highway closures and the length of time that they will
remain closed.

At the present time, it would appear that the South Street Bridge will
remain closed for the remainder of today while engineering survey teams
complete their evaluation process. The Expressway is experiencing
intermittent lane closures to assist in the clean-up and engineering
survey. If it is determined that additional work is required to
stabilize the concrete situation, the City and PENNDOT will schedule the
work for overnight hours so it will pose the least amount of traffic
problems.

Please be aware that the bridge and Expressway closures are severely
hindering the flow of traffic throughout University City .
