Dear Mr. Zardus, At the extreme risk of agreeing with you on some points, I feel the so-called ruthless business practices of the last 20 years or so, along with downsizing jobs and selling jobs overseas under the guise of being competitive in the World Market, coupled with the fact that one cannot be sick or stay home with sick children has really hurt kids and has made their parents, as you say, worn out.
There are always those who should never bring have had kids of course, (perhaps me included). Especially those who are too young, too uneducated and have no visible means of support, as people used to say. Unfortunately, people are human and birth and death are never really planned or convenient. The irony of it all is that the conditions that created this situation was the political agenda of those who espoused of "Family Values." One cannot know what educational reforms that are trying to take place now will lead us. My feeling is that the end of the Public Education System as we know it is near. The same which people never wanted to fund with their taxes during Reconstruction for children who were previously denied an education. -Wilma de Soto On 3/11/04 6:06 PM, "William Zardus" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > That's exactly what I was trying to say > but you said it a little better. > > In a lot of instances, 2 workers with much > more costly educations are working 80 hours > or more to have the same standard of living > that a prior generation had with one income. > > That's the number one issue impacting > the country now and I have no solution. > > 2 worn out parents are too worn out to parent > or do much more than exist.
