From another thread, "Philistine" is an anti-Palestinian slur.

Only in todays PC culture.

It was the name used by the Greeks to identify the war-like peoples from "Philista" or what is today called "Palestine." But in more "contemporary English usage" has always meant -- one who is opposed to the arts and culture.

The term dates from at least the 12 Century BC (as in Samson and Delilah).
