Al: Rather than use your choices I will answer your question more directly. It was not only the presentation of Councilwoman Blackwell, but the collective voices in the room of multiple community representatives and residents who not only supported John Fenton the man, but individually spoke about their own frustrations with UCD and their polices. It was puzzling for everyone to have multiple UCD representatives in the room and have them purposely not engage the crowd due to their on-going policy of silence. Wendell read the same statement UCD released 3 weeks ago. A planning committee of community stakeholders was formed from a motion on the floor which carried. The purpose of the planning committee is to explore the next steps on behalf of the community stakeholders who were present on Thursday as well as designing a process to gather more information from the public who is
concerned about the UCD and its current operations. The general idea behind the committee was to have the community stakeholders own the process and not rely on UCD or any of their partners to steer the process for disclosure or change. Based on conversations I had conducted with committee members thus far, at this stage it is premature to suggest a community forum or anything else until we have actually met as a committee and put all agendas and proposals on the table before the organizing group. After Penn's First Thursday meeting adjourned, the UC-Review offered to assist the community with a public forum, but again, the planning committee has not had its first meeting and no particular format or timetable has been discussed or ratified. I will post the time, date and location of the planning meeting for any and all who would like to attend. The postings about the recent "First Thursday" meeting made if fairly clear that the message between the lines of Councilwoman's presentation was that the NID initiative is dead. However, there were a few things posted about the possibility of a "community meeting" on the topic. It wasn't at all clear who wanted such a meeting: a) Mrs Blackwell b) Penn/UCD c) people in the community based on what they might have thought before the Councilwoman's presentation, d) people in the community based on what they might have thought after the Councilwoman's presentation. e) other Also, dependent on the answer to the above, what would be the objective and the deliverable of such a meeting?
