The Friends of Clark Park recently purchased 5 Clearstream recycling containers, and they debuted last night at the premier of "As You Like It". The story of Clark Park recycling is based on the age-old legend that Clark Park's courtly trashcans fill up very quickly each day in the summertime with all manner of human and canine refuse.

The court jester (played by the Friends of Clark Park) has been in love with Divertino (played by the Recycling Office) for years, but can't get Divertino's attention. The irreverent Friends group had long ago long theorized that if the empty 40s, plastic water bottles and cans of St Ides were diverted as recycling that the trashcans would fill up slower. The Jester is mocked for his dream, since everyone in the court believes that Recreatio (played by the Recreation Dept) is only using the park for it's lovely trees and water fountains and will never take out the recycling since he rarely takes out the trash. Recreatio's wealthy and powerful brother, DeStreeto (played by the Streets Dept), is secretly in love with Clark Park and is the only one with a fleet of magical compactor trucks capable of recycling.

In act one, DeStreeto's best friend, Divertino pretending to be a woman, contacts the Friends group asking for help establishing recycling in Clark Park. The Jester, seeing through the disguise, agrees to meet Divertio at the Decorated Shed hoping to woo Divertino with promises of vast quantities of renewable resources. The wacky Friends group meets Divertino at the Decorated Shed with clear bags filled with clean, empty bottles and cans, including plastic with their tops removed. Divertino, now disguised as DeStreeto, takes the recycling AND THE TRASH!

If this makes any sense to you, it must be the heat. So, step away from the computer screen. I encourage everyone to come to Clark Park this week and use the fabulous new containers. If you are a true recycling fan, please contact the Streets Dept's Reycling Office and the Recreation Dept to tell them how much you appreciate THEIR new recycling initiative in Clark Park.
