Just fyi, turns out the grey & white cat I wrote about last week does have a home. He is an indoor-outdoor cat on Osage (near 43rd), new to the area. His owner was out of town for a couple of weeks, though I'm told he was being looked after... He didn't have a collar, and his microchip wasn't registered to his current owner... We're hoping that will be remedied soon.
Several folks thought he was stray.

Do keep your pets safe and keep them collared and tagged, if you can - whether they go outdoors or not. If they have a microchip make sure it is registered. Microchips are inexpensive and safe (discounted at PAWS) and can be registered with any number of companies - some have fees, some don't. For indoor cats, make sure to mark on the collar or tag that your cat is 'indoor only'. Dogs should always wear their collars & tags - not just for ID purposes, but a collared dog is more easily (and likely to be) captured if on the loose.

Every day Lost & Found websites are flooded with new postings of lost pets - everywhere. :(
