School privatization (links):
The first article confirms the creaming being done in the propaganda
campaign in support of privatizing schools. This creaming has been
reported from the other charter schools being held up in places like
Harlem as proof of the charter school model. This is very important for
people to consider:
"They join 13 schools - seven charters and six district-run Promise
Academies - that already enforce longer hours and offer extras including
social services, reading and math tutoring, and rich after-school
activities."
The ancillary social services, tutoring, rich after school activities,
and other resources are vital and have long been denied to the poorer
public school districts. If public education received these appropriate
extra resources, they would also have improved outcomes! Diametrically
opposed to the privatization spin, these model charter schools,
temporarily being pumped up with appropriate resources, support what
public education advocates point out about the funding gap existing today!
This creaming is a fraudulent research practice when offered as proof of
the privatization model. The creaming which has gotten some attention
is pulling away some students while leaving those with more problems
behind in the public schools.
As always occurs once privatized systems are in place, the cost to
taxpayers will explode because of the huge profits a small group of
cronies will reap. The resources that are vital for schools will be
withdrawn along the same class lines which always occur. Parents will
also be asked to pay for more programs out of pocket or their children
will be denied.
This privatization of schools propaganda is being done boldly. These
frauds are very obvious if the people of Philadelphia stop and think
about this spin! Current parents are desperate and so they often can't
see what is being done and are justifiably consumed with getting a lucky
slot. Privatization uses the immediate crisis, but with long term goals
which are horrible for the rest of us.
