"Trust me, it happened to me."

Rick,

The problem we've both personally experienced is very relevant and important to discuss. It's another part of the complete failure of the entire criminal justice system. Most neighborhoods and working class people already understand that "the law" is not their to help them. The seriousness of different crimes is not the issue for the failed system but who are the victims is! (e.g. Over 99% of bank robberies are solved and 60% of murders)

As the social safety net continues to go from bad to destroyed, this lack of security in one's housing situation is going to devastate more families and communities as individuals with serious problems are further pushed on families to deal with, but without any protections for themselves. (I've heard of calls to start denying benefits to individuals whose family "can" take them in.)

Sometimes its hard to understand why populations who most suffer from the fake solutions like the war on drugs and "stop and frisk" embrace calls for tough on crime strategies. Of course the calls are never intended to bring more safety or security to them, but something else entirely. However, they may have been traumatized because crime is allowed against them.

Assaults , fraud, etc. are happening to people everyday and the police and the DA refuse to even take interest! The middle class are trained to believe that people stop reporting these crimes because they are lazy, but victims know that the various branches of the criminal justice system only serve the wealthy (and sometimes middle class civic associations). Once you've experienced the complete failure of the DA, police, courts, and realize how unavailable they are for commoners; you know you are completely on your own against real crime.

We need to call out these fake "solutions" to crime like militarized police, stop and frisk, and the war on drugs and have a professional accountable police force, district attorney, and courts doing real justice work for all!

The fact that crime against most people has been de facto legalized while protesters and pot smokers are the sole focus of police gangs is all interconnected!

I hope people wake up and demand a completely different "justice system" for all.

Linda,

What Glenn said is still worth understanding and taking seriously. The police it seems won't act to assist you if someone to whom you at any point gave permission to stay - refuses to leave your house, and already has some things there, or if they get mail, or exhibit some / any level of residency - even if they are damaging things on purpose (probably it must be under ~$5,000 worth to avoid prosecution), seriously jeopardizing the property with negligence etc., costing you scads of dollars in utilities, etc., etc., etc.

You will be told by the police that you need to apply to Landlord Tenant Court at 34 S. 11th St., and will probably then be told you need an L & I license, and will then probably have to wait months (often many long months)... judges are almost unavailable... and by the time the Sheriff acts you could be robbed blind...

Trust me, it happened to me.

It is like one of the worst parts of Dr. Zhivago, without having the good parts.

Glenn,
For what it's worth, I have no intentions of 'adopting' any homeless folks. But folks need shelter, and those with a pet have the additional burden of feeding and sheltering their pet. I don't know John but I hope he finds warmth for himself and for his dogs tonight. It will be a bitter, nasty weekend.

Hey Linda,

Be very careful!! If you let someone into your home for 48 hours because of compassion, they can stay.

Today, I just got rid of "3 dog John" who I've had since June 1st in a house. Because I was reeling from a death in the family, I foolishly let him stay temporarily- that was 7 months ago.

The serious professionals can put you out of your home and stay because they know how to draw things out without any reason at all. I've found that this John Liken has left a trail of tears around this neighborhood!

I believe in compassion, but a professional homeless con man can ruin one's life. Be careful and warn everyone not to take in 3 dog John!!!!!!!

Hi Linda!
I was wondering if you knew of any place a homeless guy could go with his dog? He says all the shelters will not allow him to have a pet. It's going to be so brutally cold this weekend. it already is bitter cold. I do not know how people are making it out in the elements.

This is what I know about him. This comes from a friend of a friend:
"Hi all, asking for some advice, there's a homeless man(Don) and his dog(Buster) who are on the streets and shelters won't accept because of buster. Don refuses to leave him! It's supposed to be bad out this weekend. If you know of anywhere they can go please please let me know or visit them @ Chestnut & Juniper."

Thanks!!
Sara
