This is exactly what I'm running. An old HP Omnibook 6000 running Linux FC5 with a 120GB Freecom USB powered HDD formatted FAT32 as it was delivered. Just find an old Win 95 or 98 machine to format the drive if its been reformatted to something else. Mine was delivered formatted FAT32.
