Once again, Michael saves the day! I've installed Ubuntu 14.04 x64 today as a VM, replacing my 12.04 x64 VM. After installing LMS via apt and getting the dreaded "restarting" message, I found this thread.
I've downloaded 7.8 from http://downloads.slimdevices.com/LogitechMediaServer_v7.8.0/, installed it, and all is working. Thank you Michael. I know that logitech has stopped the LMS products but lots of us have many slim players and would be lost without them, and with your time and hard work we can continue to enjoy them.
