By way of example; I have a Synology DS413j, great for low power home NAS duties. But it doesnt cut the mustard (so to speak) when used for downloading torrents and running LMS at the same time. Especially when LMS is faced with indexing 200,000 songs. Just browsing the album list became painful. I tried LMS on pCP on a rPi 2B+ and it was also too slow for my needs. I now run LMS on a much 'bigger' server (xeon 1260) that runs XPenology (a community version of Synology) and it flys along. Indexing is fast, and loading album and song lists is fast too. I havent tried a Pi 3 with LMS. Maybe someone has done some LMS benchmarking ?
