Yes lirc does handle de-duplication and I've discussed it in the 'lirc
pcp thread'

Since pCP 5.0 jivelite no longer uses LIRC for IR remote input. It's
all handled through the linux kernel ir keytable keyboard emulation
"crap" in my opinion. (Ahh progress!) This happened when the lirc
kernel subsystem no longer had an active maintainer and was removed. I
have several IR remotes that worked great with LIRC but only half the
key actually return scancodes with the new subsystem. LIRC is only used
now in pCP when controlling squeezelite directly since 5.0.

That being said, I use the Justboom IR remote with pcp 6, jivelite and
kernel ir keytables and the remote power key button turns jivelite
screen both on and off. You can control the repeat rate using the -D
option of ir-keytables, if you think that's the problem.

In "real" jive aka squeezeplay pressing any key other than power when
the player is off, displays the stopped screen saver and on screen power
button for a couple seconds before turning off again. Whereas pressing
the remote power key when off, turns the screen/player back to on state.
Unfortunately, jivelite does not handle the soft power options the same
as squeezeplay and has been a constant struggle to maintain. I use a
private squeezeplay build on pcp 4.1 as my primary controller and
player, with my favourite LIRC remote in my office these days. A build
is available for 6.0 in the repository but I haven't posted any
instructions on setup as it's not supported through the webgui. It
started out as a test bed for the radio firmware changes I've been
working on to shake down aac support and I ended up preferring it.
