I have a bunch of players and have been on RPI's for a long time. I'm not a technical guy where this stuff is concerned so I try to keep it simple. I use a thumb drive to for both of my servers and the one in my car. Simple, clean and easy. I buy the smallest one I can. I only have about 300GB of music so seems like a good solution for you.
